Faidherbia Albida (Winterthorn) (Msangu)

Slow initial growth, but growth rate increase later. Can exceed 30m in height. Prefers sandy soil. Is an indicator of ground water and fertile land. It is nitrogen fixing and conserves and improves soil conditions.

Winter shade tree, it loses it leaves during the rainy season. Flowers in cold season, May to July.

Seed can be boiled, skin removed, and eaten. Root bark used for treating coughs, fever, diarrhea, and even pneumonia.

Bark used to clean teeth, believed to contain fluorine.

Timber is weak, used for building canoes, and rough furniture.
