Azanza Garckeana (Tree Hibiscus/Snot Apple) ( Ukole/Mkole)
Semi-deciduous tree grows up to 11 m and is more likely to be evergreen in warm climates.
Flowers in Nov to March and produces fruit from Jan to Aug. The fruit is edible while still young, but only the flesh is eaten.
This makes good firewood, tool handles, bows, etc. The inner bark is used as fibre to make rope.
It is drought resistant, but thrives with abundant water in the rainy season.
A host for cotton stainer, so it should not be planted near any cotton crops.
